Medical Air Rescue Service operates 26 Advanced Life Support ambulances stationed in centres across Zimbabwe, all on 24 hour alert. All M.A.R.S. ambulances are crewed by a minimum of two paramedics, at least one of whom is a fully qualified State Registered Nurse and/or Emergency Medical Technician. Should the member's emergency situation require, a doctors is always on standby to accompany the ambulance. A dedicated air ambulance augments the countrywide network of road ambulances. This aircraft, a Jetstream 31, is a specifically configured and equipped air ambulance, maintained on 24-hour standby at Harare International Airport. The flight crews responsible for manning the aircraft are available 24 hours a day on a shift basis.
Medical Air Rescue Service is a membership driven organization. The bulk of the membership derives from Medical Aid Society Subscribers. Medical Aid members are encouraged to consult their Medical Aid Societies to verify membership status. There is also a variety of other pre-paid membership schemes specifically tailored to satisfy the different needs in education, industry, tourism and commerce.
